Someone looking for catalog design with artificial intelligence usually wants a quick page layout, but the main responsibility of the product catalog is to consistently present the information that will get the customer to choose the right product. A product detail or mismatched technical feature that doesn't actually exist can eliminate the value of the page that looks successful.
Identify the source of the product information
The product name, code, size and description should come from an approved list. Do not use the details predicted by the visual production tool as product information. Check which photo matches which code, especially on similar models. The changing foot or fabric of a chair in the drawing also changes the product promise that the customer sees.
Design a page system, not a page
The layout that looks good on the first page can be broken down on long-explained products. Try with the shortest and longest content. The title, price, property area and location of the image should be consistent across the pages if there is a price. Consistency is not forcing each page to look the same; it is the ability for the reader to predict where to find the information.
Is the brochure and catalogue the same scope?
No. A short promotional brochure can highlight the single message. The catalog may require product groups, comparisons, and a wider navigational layout. Instead of starting with the question "how many pages?", determine which information will be told in which order and for whom. Consider also how the added products will affect the layout.
Student practice: insert difficult content
Write the texts yourself for six imaginary products. One's name is too long, one's photo is vertical, the other's list of features is more crowded. Try to place them all in readable form with the same design system. Only a model prepared with ideal content may not show actual production problems.
Do two separate checks before delivery
In the first check, the content owner should approve product information. In the second, the graphic designer should check the page flow, the visual quality, the numbering, and the printing conditions that the manufacturer wants. The PDF used on the screen may differ from the requirements of the print file. Tell the environment to be used initially.
