Billboard design cannot carry the density of information on a web page. The viewer often moves and does not try to read the entire message. The task of the design is to establish a strong idea that can be understood at a given glance. Decisions made without knowing the size and location of the venue may therefore be incomplete.

Make the location part of the brief

The roadside, pedestrian area, and building facade offer different viewing conditions. Approach direction, surrounding visual intensity, and approximate visibility should be evaluated. It should not be assumed that the same design will work in the same way in all open-air environments. Get current technical requirements of the map owner.

Share the task of the visual with the text

The title should support the visual same message when carrying the main idea. When adding multiple slogans, product lists and small descriptions, attention is shattered. Check the readability of this in the actual use condition if the phone or web address is to be given. Seeing the design in the small preview helps to notice if the main idea is lost.

Verify file scale with manufacturer

In large print jobs, the working scale, resolution expectation, and safe space should be clarified relative to the manufacturer. It should be explained how to move the small-scale prepared file to the print size. The fact that the visuals appear sharp on the screen alone does not mean that the target is sufficient on the surface.

With the Billboard design budget, consider the budget for renting and printing media separately. List adaptations if a campaign is to be published on more than one scale. Test not only the color and composition in the final approval but also the understanding of the message at a brief glance.
