Label design is more extensive than placing a logo on the product. The buyer should be able to distinguish the type of product, read the required information, and relate to other products in the same series. It is also important how the design is applied to the actual surface as well as its appearance on the shelf.
Don't decide on the size without seeing the shape of the product
Cylindrical bottle, cornered box, and flexible bag create different conditions. The text that appears centered on the flat screen can slide to the side when the label is wrapped around the product. Identify the visible area of the front face, the joining point, and the application tolerance with the manufacturer. Learn about production decisions from the printing supplier, such as white ink if the transparent, metalized or colored surface is to be used.
Design approval is different with content approval
Product name, quantity, content, usage description and necessary warnings must be collected in a list approved by the brand. What information is mandatory depends on the product class and the sales market; graphic design delivery does not replace regulatory compliance approval. The designer establishes the placement of this information. The responsible person to check the accuracy and currentness of the content must be determined from the beginning.
Don't rely on the color alone in the product line
Colour can help to separate three flavors or different volumes; but the variety name and quantity should also be clearly written. Very close to each other colors may not be distinguished in poor printing conditions or small product photo. Keeping the main brand area constant and collecting product differences in a specific region makes it easier to add new variants.
Do not copy the barcode from the presentation image
Get the barcode file to be used in production from the authorized source. Expanding the screenshot, changing its ratio, or filling the surrounding space with decorative items can affect scanability. The final file should be checked with the supplier in real size and production conditions. The same control is done for small texts and fine lines.
What should be separated in surrender?
The cut template, the design to be printed, and the presentation model are separated. Mockup describes the approximate appearance of the product; it is not a print file. The code of each product, the approved text version, and the print PDF are matched. Open files are kept regular so that only the relevant file can be updated when a content changes within the series.
