First identify the question and the data source
What decision will the reader make: compare options, learn a process, see change over time? Do not add numbers that do not answer this question just because they are interesting. Save the source, the measurement period, and the unit for each data. If the numbers from different periods are to be compared, this difference should be visible.
Select the visual format by relationship
Steps in a process, the common scale in comparison, the definition of the sum in the part-whole relationship. Large icons and bright colors do not correct the wrong scale. First test the order of information in a black and white draft. The title, main inference, supporting detail, and the order of reading the source note should be distinct.
Prepare mobile and accessible version
The infographic that fits on a single page on the desktop may not be readable on the phone. Prepare cards that are divided into sections instead of shrinking a long image. Present the main information as text on the web page; let the alternate text of the image explain its purpose. Specify the source file, update handler and usage measures in the delivery.
